Tories tax 4,600 self-employed people in Ashton-under-Lyne

Tax-Returns-.jpegAngela Rayner MP has attacked the tax hike put on 4,600 self-employed people in Ashton-under-Lyne in the Chancellor's Budget today.

They will see their National Insurance payments soar from April 2018, unless the Tories do another u-turn.

Angela said: "This measure is a tax grab on the self-employed who are Just About Managing. Whether they work as a sole trader or through a limited company they will be facing higher National Insurance bills.

"Increasing the tax burden on them is short sighted. These are hardworking people getting by on relatively modest incomes that do not have the same protections or benefits as employees.
"The growth in self-employment has driven our labour market in recent years and punitive rises in tax will make many people have second thoughts about striking out on their own. I will oppose this measure."
